What is rising/ penetrating damp?
Damp is a relatively common issue that can affect homes and businesses up and down the county, in particular older properties. It is caused by water seeping through walls, usually due to poor or no effective damp proofing. There are two main types to look out for:
✔ Rising ramp. As the name suggests, rising damp usually starts off at ground level, and rises up the property. Commonly seen around skirting boards.
✔ Penetrating damp. This type of damp is largely the same, but can appear anywhere on walls and on ceilings.
In any case, Dampproof1 is here to help. We have over 30 years’ experience in remedying damp-based issues, and can be trusted to provide a professional service for a great price.
Spot the signs early:
✔ Damaged plaster
✔ Localised patches of damp. Rising damp will usually be towards the bottom of walls
✔ Mould on interior walls, or moss on exterior walls
✔ Damaged exterior brickwork
✔ Staining on walls
✔ A heavy, musky smell
